Jazz Band - The Curve Line Quintet

Man what a fun night.  Went out for tacos here in Eagle Rock (My new home since a week and a half ago), and discovered a jazz band, The Curve Line Quintet, playing in a custom-framing shop across the street.  I felt compelled to draw them and, long story short, I'm glad I followed that impulse.  It was as simple as opening the door and asking if I can hang out and draw and so there I sat as they rehearsed.

It was something else sharing with and vibing off of these musicians in such a small and intimate setting.  Super inspiring...here's what I did!:

 Tim - Guitar

 David - Bass

 Javier - Saxophone

 Kamara (sp?) - Keys

  Yuri - Drums

Make sure to catch 'em June 22 - next Friday at 9pm for their next live set!

Toronto Comic Arts Festival - TCAF 2012!

This weekend I'll be flying to Toronto for TCAF (The Toronto Comic Arts Festival)!  This will be my second time visiting the festival and I couldn't be more excited!

This year I'll be technically visiting as an exhibitor, although I don't actually have a booth.  I will, however, be a part of Sunday's spotlight featuring the artists of Explorer: The Mystery Boxes!:

2:45pm-3:30pm: Spotlight: Explorer The Mystery Boxes
Join the creators of Explorer: The Mystery Boxes: Kazu Kibuishi (Amulet), Jason Caffoe (Flight), Stuart Livingston, Raina Telgemeier (Smile), and Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy), as they read their stories live on stage, with a little help from the audience! (Located in the Appel Salon, Novella Room on the 2nd Floor!)

This will actually be my first on-stage panel experience, so it goes without saying I'm pretty thrilled about it. :)

Outside of my time spent visiting & greeting old & new faces, and buying way too many books, you'll most likely find me hanging around the guys at the Bolt City Productions booth, helping out if need be & signing copies of Explorer!

Sooo if you're in Toronto this weekend, be sure to stop by.  If not, buy a plane ticket!

PS: Check my twitter feed to see what I'm up to throughout the weekend.  It's gonna be a blast.  See ya later California!

3-Gear Samus - Metroid Comic

Here's a Metroid comic I did as a warmup:

The joke is intended for people who've beaten Super Metroid...and if you haven't beaten Super Metroid, then God help you.

Mario Comic!

Here's a quick (too quick for panel borders) Mario comic I did this morning as a warmup.  This was done straight ahead, fiddling a bit with the now-timeless saga of Super Mario Bros. 1 - fun exercise!

You're so dense, Mario!
